Give every hour a place.
See what a plan asks of the people behind it. Include the work outside the map before deciding how much time is available.
24 gates / month
91.1 h within stated budget
4.9 h above stated budget
43.1 h within stated budget
Each ruler runs from 0 to 200%. The mark is the stated budget.
What would a few more orders ask of the team?
In the Northline example, 20 gates fit the stated plan. At 24 gates a month, Sam’s planned demand is about 163 hours against a 160-hour budget, even though the team total still fits.
The team total is only part of the picture.
Inspect each person’s planned demand against their stated capacity. A spare hour with one person is not automatically an available hour for a different step.
Leave room for the rest of the job.
Include unstructured work, recurring commitments and protected improvement time. If unfinished work carries forward, delivery can slip; excess effort alone does not establish a delivery date.
